Il Tempio di Pashupatinath è il più importante tempio induista del Nepal. Si trova lungo il corso del fiume Bagmati, a Kathmandu, ed è consacrato al dio Pashupati, manifestazione di Śiva.
E' famoso per le cerimonie di cremazione che avvengono giornalmente sui ghat che si affacciano sul fiume sacro Bagmati. Gli induisti credono che sono mediante un corretto rito di cremazione al tempio, la loro anima potrà incarnarsi nuovamente.
I corpi, prima di essere cremati, vengono avvolti in sudari arancioni, distesi lungo la riva del fiume, bagnati più volte con l'acqua del fiume e cosparsi con petali di fiori.
Successivamente la salma viene adagiata su una pira funeraria. Secondo la tradizione deve essere il figlio maggiore ad appiccare il fuoco per il padre, mentre il minore per la madre.

Pashupatinath Temple is the most important Hindu temple in Nepal. It is located along the Bagmati River, in Kathmandu, and is consecrated to the god Pashupati, a manifestation of Śiva.
It is famous for the cremation ceremonies that take place daily on the ghats overlooking the sacred Bagmati River. Hindus believe that through proper temple cremation, their soul will be able to incarnate again.
The bodies, before being cremated, are wrapped in orange shrouds, stretched along the river bank, bathed several times with river water and sprinkled with flower petals.
Subsequently the body is placed on a funeral pyre. According to tradition, it must be the eldest son who sets the fire for the father, while the younger son for the mother.
